Summary
As a Schwalm Cutter Operator, you will be responsible for operating robotic cutting equipment to reinstate service laterals, remove intrusions, and perform precision cutting within Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) rehabilitated pipelines. Working as part of a CIPP crew, you will ensure that all pipe reinstatements and milling operations meet project specifications and industry standards.
Essential Functions:
- Operate Schwalm robotic cutters to restore service laterals and remove intrusions after CIPP installation.
- Set up and calibrate robotic cutters, cameras, and associated equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and minor repairs on Schwalm units to ensure optimal performance.
- Work closely with the CIPP foreman and CCTV operator to verify precise reinstatement locations.
- Follow job site safety procedures, including confined-space entry and pressurized-pipe safety.
- Assist the CIPP crew with liner installation, steam-cure setup, and job-site preparation when not actively cutting.
- Maintain accurate daily reports on cutter performance, completed reinstatements, and job progress.
- Troubleshoot cutting issues, including blade wear, equipment malfunctions, and access challenges.
- Ensure Schwalm robotic cutters are operated safely and efficiently in lined pipelines.
- Maintain and troubleshoot robotic cutting equipment to prevent downtime.
- Work as an integral part of the CIPP crew to support overall project success.
- Ensure all cutting operations meet project specifications and quality control standards.
- Ensure that tasks are performed safely with the highest level of quality and integrity.
- Arrive at the office or job site on time and ready to work.
- Adhere to company policies.
- Works when scheduled and complies with the company's attendance policy.
- Travel to various job sites as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and successfully pass a DOT drug test.
- Must be able to obtain a 1st Class B CDL License within 90 days.
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating Schwalm or similar robotic cutters in CIPP or trenchless rehabilitation.
- Strong understanding of robotic cutting technology, milling techniques, and pipe reinstatement methods.
- Familiarity with CIPP installation processes, including liner curing, lateral reinstatement, and pipeline rehabilitation.
- Basic mechanical skills for troubleshooting and maintaining robotic cutting equipment.
- Knowledge of CCTV camera operation to assist in precise cutting and verification.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, adhering to space entry protocols, and following OSHA safety guidelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to job site challenges.
- Must adhere to safety policies and procedures, contribute to maintaining a safe and clean work environment, and demonstrate proficiency in wearing and utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English effectively.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Work may be performed in industrial settings and outdoor environments, exposing employees to extreme temperatures, weather conditions, noise, mechanical and electrical hazards, chemical exposure, odors, and fumes. The role requires the ability to enter confined spaces as needed and lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical demands include climbing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, prolonged standing, and using hands and fingers to operate tools.
Travel Requirements: Must be willing and able to travel weekly as required and on weekends as needed.
